Gaming, grinds, and good chaos

The gaming side of Pakkit.net — where long-term goals, esports energy, favorite games, and player stories live.

I'm Brandon Donaly, also known online as Pakkit. Gaming has always been one of the ways I learn systems, chase mastery, hang out with communities, and turn tiny improvements into long-running stories — including PakkitPup, my Old School RuneScape account.

Active gaming identities

Where Pakkit shows up to play

Pakkit is my broader online identity; PakkitPup is my Old School RuneScape account. OSRS is one of the active gaming identities connected to Pakkit.

PakkitPup is my Old School RuneScape account name and the home for Pakkit's OSRS account — progress, goals, screenshots, lessons, and milestone notes. The canonical PakkitPup page connects my RuneScape identity back to the rest of Pakkit.net.

Gaming systems

Games are full of economies, optimization paths, interfaces, constraints, and weird edge cases. That makes them a perfect playground for systems thinking.

Playing

Main games & modes

Overwatch is home base; the rest is long-haul grinding, social worlds, and games that get a group together.

Overwatch

My favorite competitive game. A hero shooter where one good call swings a fight and one bad one feeds — I'm here for the read-and-adapt loop and comms that actually matter.

Mindset

What Overwatch taught me about engineering

Ranked is a fast, brutal feedback machine. Most of what it drills — comms, systems, ego control — is the same thing that keeps software shipping and on-call calm.

Bad comms lose winnable fights

A silent team feeds. So does a vague PR or a missing status update — the play was there, nobody called it.

Good systems reduce panic

Default callouts and a clean ult economy mean nobody freezes. Runbooks and alerts do the same when on-call goes sideways.

Fast feedback beats ego

Read the result of the fight and adjust — don't insist you were right. Ship it, measure it, change it.

VOD review is incident review with more screaming

Watch the loss back, name the real mistake, no excuses. That's just an honest postmortem with better audio.

Team composition is architecture

The right comp covers each other's weaknesses. So does the right split of services, ownership, and people.

Community

Tooling that makes communities more fun

The same automation instinct from the day job, pointed at game nights and Discord servers.

Discord bots

Role flows, reaction toys, and onboarding that welcomes people instead of feeling like paperwork.

Event automation

Spin up a game night, post the lobby, ping the right roles, and tear it all down when it's over.

Match & session scheduling

Find the overlap in everyone's chaos and lock a time — without the 40-message "u free?" thread.

Playful community UX

Leaderboards, streaks, and tiny dopamine loops that make a server feel alive between sessions.

Streaming & content

The honest version

No fixed schedule yet, and I'm not going to fake one. When I do go live, expect build-in-public over highlight reel: community tools getting wired up in real time, Overwatch with the comms on, and the occasional "watch me debug this at 1am" energy. If that turns into something regular, it'll show up here first.
